Q: What files should I backup?
A:
Backup any
files you think are critical and you cannot afford to lose. For
most users, these files will be in the My
Documents folders. The Aegis Security
Suite also comes with a wizard to help you identify important programs
and
files on your computer.
Q: Why doesn’t Aegis backup files as I type?
A:
The Aegis
Security Suite will only backup files as they change on your hard
drive.
When you type within a file, the changes have
not been written to your hard drive yet and thus will not be backed
up.
If you save the file, it will then be written
to the hard drive and then backed up to our secure server.
Q: How many versions of files can I have using
Aegis?
A:
Using the
Aegis Security Suite, you will only be allowed to have two versions of
files –
those that are backed up in real time and those backed up on a set
schedule. Aegis Gold allows up to 30
versions of any and all files.
Q: I just bought a new computer.
Can I transfer all of my files to the new
computer?
A:
After
downloading the Aegis Security Suite install file, proceed to install
the
program and specify that you are an existing customer. After
verifying your identity, you will be
able to initiate an Emergency Recovery. You will now have all your
files and
directories in the latest versions on your new computer. Make
sure that you uninstall the Aegis
Security Suite from your old computer or you may have problems.
Q: Why did Aegis attribute more bandwidth
usage
to me than the size of the file I am trying to backup?
A:
Halcyon
Computing Services uses the OpenSSH SFTP standard for file
transfers.
On top of the actual file being sent or
received, this protocol transfers additional data to ensure security
and data
integrity. On large files (larger than 1
MB), this value is negligible. But on
small files, the overhead may be very high.
Q: Can I access my files using another program?
A:
Since
we use SFTP, you can access your files with any SFTP client
